Transfers of economic, social and cultural resources from parents to children to a large extent are responsible for the inequalities of opportunity among children of different social origin and for the reproduction of social inequality across generations. To longstanding issues of economic disparities have recently been added important dimensions of family structure and other forms of social capital.
