The foundation commemorates prof. Anton C. Kuijsten, professor in demography at the University of Amsterdam, who suddenly and untimely died in early 2000 at the age of 55 years. The foundation has been granted EAPS’ auspices in 2001. Its Board consists of Frans Willekens (chair), Henk de Gans and Nico van Nimwegen (members) and Ine Moers–Kuijsten (secretary-treasurer).
Authorised by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, the Charles University, the University and notably its Department of Demography and Geodemography has formally accepted to take on the responsibility to regularly organise the seminars mentioned above, as well as to host and support the library.
Plans are being developed by the Charles University to have a first ACK Seminar hopefully in 2004. As regards the ACK Library, the Charles University welcomes any donations in kind from libraries or private collections (e.g. from retiring demographers). A call for such donations will be posted on the EAPS website and in the EAPS Newsletter in due time.
The foundation considers the possibility to award a prize for the best contribution in the field of applied demography.
The foundates also calls for book donations. Researchers who may want to make available (part of) their book collections to the ACK library in Prague could contact the chairperson of the ACK Library, Tomas Kucera.
