European Population: Variation on Common Themes 1997, Cracow, Poland

The conference "European Population: Variations on Common Themes" was organized by the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) in collaboration with the Institute of Statistics and Demography at the Warsaw School of Economics and the Cracow Academy of Sciences. The conference aimed at providing insights into the variations in European population trends and patterns, the various contexts which shape this variety, as well as its consequences.

In addition to a plenary session on "converging and diverging patterns in Europe's population" with a keynote address by David Coleman, 29 simultaneous sessions and an "open forum" were organized. The conference was attended by some 190 participants, with 140 presentations.

Reports on the Cracow conference were published in EAPS newsletter 23 (1997, 2) and 24 (1998, 1).
