EPC 1999


This European Population Conference was jointly organized by the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) and the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), in collaboration with the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), Statistics Netherlands and the Netherlands Demographic Society.

EPC 1999 convened in The Hague, the Netherlands from August 29 - September 2. The conference focused on comparative population issues and traced the degree of homogeneity and/or heterogeneity of European populations under the general motto "European populations on the treshold of the new millennium: unity in diversity".

Some 460 participants from 41 countries all over Europe and beyond attended the conference. The scientific program included 5 Plenary sessions and 32 simultaneous sessions.

In the framework of EPC1999, two special publications were produced, both published in the series European Studies of Population (ESPO) by Kluwer Academic Publishers (Dordrecht, Netherlands):
